Equal Educational Opportunities

Important Things Learned:
I learned that there is a lot of information and different laws/acts that deal with equal opportunities.

For over 40 years, federal policymakers and education advocates alike celebrated the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, especially Title I, which together with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 heralded a major new role of the federal government—to guarantee equal education opportunity nationwide. And for a while there was reason to celebrate as the federal government and new federal education statutes empowered educational leaders to see to it that more and more disadvantaged American kids received the equal education they deserved.  (Podesta, J., & Brown, C.)

Surprising Things Learned:
I teach in Mandan, North Dakota and I feel that the staff at our school are always compliant to a students needs.  I realized that in other parts of the country and around the world this isn't always true.

Questions:
What more can be done to ensure we are reaching all American learners?
How can we make the worlds education system more like America's?
Where will we be on this issue in 10, 20, or 100 year from now?
